Crossed Written By: Emily McIntire This week, I would love to tell you about a book that I enjoyed immensely and that had my attention captured from the moment I opened it. Crossed is the fifth, but not the final, book in the Never After series and one of my favorites I the series. This book is a spin off of the famous tale, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". I was a b it skeptical going in to this book because of the fact that I wasn't familiar with the original story and didn't know if I would appreciate it as much. however, this became my favorite very quickly. It follows a sister, who is the only caretaker for her special need little brother, and a priest, who has one goal in his life time: expunge any person that wreaks of evil inside. Fighting to make ends meet, the woman works at a strip club under the stage name, Esmeralda. The priest is assigned to start preaching at the church of the town the woman lives in, which is where he first meets her. To him, she is e...

The Fine Print Written by: Lauren Asher The first book in the Dreamland Billionaires series was different than what I had expected when going into reading it. I heard great things about this book and author through "book-Tok" and friends and couldn't wait to read it; however, the plot was not exactly what I thought it was going to be. The plot followed the youngest of three brothers, who were set to inherit a piece of the family business, and a spunky employee. After the boys' grandfather had passed away, each of the three grandsons were given a task to complete before earning their share of the company. Rowan was forced to go to the amusement park and figure out a creative way to renovate the park for the upcoming anniversary. He, then, is introduced to one of the hair and makeup artists. When hearing her ideas for the park, he promotes her to being one of the creators, only he doesn't realize his feelings for her until it's too late. Mistakes are made and he...

Pushing the Limits Written by: Katie McGarry In honor of McGarry's latest release, Risking It All , I have decided to review the book that had influenced my love of reading in the very beginning. I first read this book in Junior High and thought it was the best thing ever. It held my attention, was greatly written, talked about hard and real topics, and made me fall in love with the characters form start to finish. This novel follows Noah and Echo, two high school students that have faced their fair share of trauma and, now, have to learn how to overcome it. Echo and Noah start out as enemies, being in completely different social groups, but are forced together when Echo needs money to fix her late brother's car and Noah is the student she is paid to tutor. The two embark in a friendship, and later a relationship, in an effort to help each other uncover the demons that haunt Echo and plan a way for Noah to get his family back. This path is not easy, especially when the two bel...

Scarred Written by: Emily McIntire To conclude October, I introduce the second book in the Never After series. I start with the second book because it was by far my favorite, alongside the final book, Crossed . With the series being based as a sort of new version of fairy tales we have all heard as children, this novel follows the story of "The Lion King". I was very skeptical when I originally heard that it was a dark romance novel based on a fairy tale of animals because I was curious to see how McIntire would portray their story and how accurate it would be. I was incredibly surprised and happily drawn in to the old time, royal world McIntire created. The story follows Prince Tristan Faasa and Lady Sara Beatreaux. Both are after their own version of revenge, Tristan aiming to get the crown from his brother and Sara hoping to rid the world of the Faasa line altogether. Neither took into consideration the thinning line bordering hatred and passion. The best kind of enemies...

A Touch of Darkness Written by: Scarlett St. Clair This book is the very first in the Hades and Persephone retelling. The storyline follows how life would be if the gods were living amongst us in our present day world. Hades is the owner of a club called Nevernight, which is incredibly exclusive and acts as the place where he makes his deals with mortals. Hades is known for being "the worst god" and offering unreasonable deals with mortals so that he can claim their souls in the Underworld. One fateful night, he stumbles upon the Goddess of Spring, Persephone, who happens to be dancing along the edge of danger in her search for adventure. Persephone is an unknown Goddess. Her mother, Demeter, kept her hidden away and kept her status a secret from all other gods and goddesses, as well as the world. When Persephone grows up, she begs her mom to let her go to college and live masquerading as a mortal. However, her cover does not last long after meeting the God of the Underworl...

Leather and Lark Written by: Brynne Weaver The second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy is here! This book surpassed any expectations I had when starting it. I thought the first book was great and nothing could top it, but the second was somehow even better. This book follows the best friend and brother of the main characters in the first book. The two find themselves stuck with each other in an act to protect their loved ones, even though they absolutely loath the little they know about one another. Upon realizing that the only way to keep their loved ones safe is to work together, they find the more they learn about each other, the harder it is to maintain their mutual hatred. Throughout the novel, the two try solving the mystery of who is stalking their family and how to put an end to them before it is too late. This story has mystery, love, passion, gore and will have you captivated from the moment you read the first chapter. I thoroughly enjoy reading Weaver's wri...

Once Upon a Broken Heart Written by: Stephanie Garber This book had been recommended to me through "book-tok", so some of you have probably already heard of it or, at least, the author. However, if you haven't, that's no problem! This book follows the story of Evangeline Fox and her search for true love. After hearing of the wedding supposed to take place between her step sister and the love of her life, Evangeline takes matters into her own hands and makes a deal with a wicked Prince of Hearts. The book follows the aftermath of her deal and how it is affecting everyone else around her and her own love story. Evangeline learns just how bad a deal with the devil could be. In my opinion, I didn't LOVE the book because it did seem written for a lower level reader and structured as so. I also was not a fan of how the female main character was portrayed as the typical damsel making questionable decisions and not always thinking about a logical solution. However, I ...
